Right now, every CHITIN is built to order. You reserve your exact build with a $250 deposit (applied to your total, and fully refunded if we can't build or fit your truck). We craft it over about 10–12 weeks at our Orange County warehouse, then bill the balance before it ships or you pick up. Building to order is how we keep prices direct and quality high — no dealer markup, no overstock. As we grow, we plan to keep our most popular builds ready to ship. For now, made-to-order means every cap is built specifically for your truck.

You choose at checkout: pick up free at our Orange County warehouse, or have it shipped by specialized LTL freight inside an industrial-grade wooden crate. If you choose delivery, your exact freight rate is calculated live at checkout based on your address. See our Shipping & Returns page for what to expect on delivery day.

Our aluminum canopies are the lightweight option, ranging from about 120 lbs to 160 lbs (55kg–75kg) depending on your bed size and how much glass your build has — solid-panel builds sit at the light end, full-glass builds (like the Weekender) at the heavier end. Steel canopies are heavier and stronger, averaging around 220 lbs to 330 lbs (100kg–150kg). Either choice leaves plenty of payload for your gear.

These are static (parked) roof loads — what the cap supports while the truck is sitting still, like a rooftop tent you sleep in overnight. Aluminum holds roughly 250 kg (~550 lbs) static; steel roughly 400 kg (~880 lbs) static.

Reduce the load for driving. Bumps, wind, and braking multiply the forces on anything mounted up top, so in-motion capacity is much lower. For rooftop tents, crossbars, and cargo boxes, stay within your rack or tent maker's driving limits — and pick steel if you're near the top of the range. Not sure about your setup? Yes. Our canopies use a clean, clamp-on system with no drilling into your truck — most owners fit theirs in an afternoon. Because the shell is a solid structure, plan on a helper (or a local 4x4 shop) to lift it onto the bed.

We don't offer a professional installation service yet. The clamp-on design means most customers don't need one — but if enough of you ask, we'll add installation down the road.

Every CHITIN is backed by our 1-Year Limited Structural Warranty, covering the shell, welds, and structural integrity against manufacturing defects. Full details on the warranty page.

Inspect the crate before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, photograph it, write "Damaged Upon Arrival" on the driver's paperwork, and email orders@chitincap.com right away. See our Shipping & Returns page for the full process.

Unused, uninstalled canopies can be returned within 14 days in their original wooden crate (a 15% restocking fee and return freight apply to change-of-mind returns). Installed or custom-spec builds aren't returnable. See Shipping & Returns.
