This website is operated by CHITIN. The terms "we," "us," and "our" refer to CHITIN. CHITIN offers this website, including all information, tools, and services available from this site, to you, the user, conditioned upon your acceptance of all terms, conditions, policies, and notices stated here.
By visiting our site or purchasing something from us, you engage in our "Service" and agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions ("Terms of Service"), including those additional terms and conditions and policies referenced herein. These Terms of Service apply to all users of the site.
1. Online Store Terms
By agreeing to these Terms of Service, you represent that you are at least the age of majority in your state or province of residence, and you have given us your consent to allow any of your minor dependents to use this site. You may not use our products for any illegal or unauthorized purpose nor may you, in the use of the Service, violate any laws in your jurisdiction.
2. Products and Pricing
All products are subject to availability. We reserve the right to discontinue any product at any time. Prices for our products are subject to change without notice. We have made every effort to display as accurately as possible the colors and finishes of our products. We cannot guarantee that your computer monitor's display will be accurate.
3. Made-to-Order Builds
Most CHITIN canopies are made to order specifically for your truck. By placing a $250 deposit, you authorize us to begin the fitment verification and production process. The deposit:
- Is applied in full to your final balance.
- Is refundable in full if we determine we cannot build or fit your truck, or if your build arrives defective.
- Is non-refundable if you cancel after we have started production, as each build is produced specifically for you.
We will confirm your exact specifications, final price, and lead time before billing the balance.
Timeline estimates
All lead times communicated to you — including but not limited to the typical ~10–12 weeks of production and ~2–3 weeks of transit — are estimates, not guarantees. Production and freight schedules can shift due to factory throughput, freight carrier capacity, customs delays, severe weather, and other factors beyond our reasonable control. We will keep you informed of any material change to your build's timeline. If a delay exceeds 30 days beyond the lead time we originally communicated to you in writing, you may elect to cancel your order for a refund of all amounts paid, minus the $250 deposit if production has already started (per the non-refundable clause above).
4. Fitment Verification
You agree to provide accurate vehicle information (Year, Make, Model, Trim, or VIN). Our team manually verifies fitment against factory build sheets before production. If your supplied information is inaccurate and results in a build that does not fit, replacement and re-fitment costs may be your responsibility.
5. Delivery and Installation
You agree to inspect the exterior of the shipping crate before signing the freight delivery receipt. Signing a clean receipt for a damaged crate may forfeit your ability to file a freight claim. Detailed inspection and damage-claim procedures are documented on our Shipping & Returns page.
Installation safety
CHITIN canopies are heavy structures — aluminum builds weigh approximately 120–130 lb and steel builds 220–330 lb depending on bed size. Installation requires lifting the canopy onto the truck bed. You assume responsibility for safe installation, including arranging adequate assistance (a second person, or a local 4x4 or truck-accessory shop) and using appropriate lifting techniques and equipment. We provide a written install guide and clamp-on hardware that requires no drilling, but we are not liable for personal injury, vehicle damage, or other property damage arising from the installation process. If you are not comfortable with the lift, please engage a professional installer.
6. Warranty
Every CHITIN canopy is backed by our 1-Year Limited Structural Warranty. Full terms — including coverage, exclusions, and the claims process — are documented on our Warranty page. Damage caused by exceeding published roof-load ratings, improper installation, modifications, or abnormal use is excluded from warranty coverage.
7. Returns
Returns are governed by our Refund & Return Policy. Made-to-order and custom-spec builds are produced specifically for your truck and are not eligible for change-of-mind returns.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CHITIN's total liability for any claim of any kind arising out of or related to the products or this website will under no circumstances exceed the original purchase price of the product. CHITIN is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including but not limited to loss of use, loss of time, vehicle damage, or labor costs for removal or reinstallation.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless CHITIN and our officers, directors, employees, and suppliers from any claim or demand made by any third party due to or arising out of your breach of these Terms of Service or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.
10. Governing Law
These Terms of Service and any separate agreements whereby we provide you Services shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States.
11. Changes to Terms of Service
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to update, change, or replace any part of these Terms of Service by posting updates and changes to our website. It is your responsibility to check our website periodically for changes.
